Reading a theological-biography of 19-century megachurch pastor Charles Spurgeon, one finds that, nearly 150 years ago, he regularly encountered deep skepticism about the "morality" of the substitutionary death of Jesus. Is there a basis for our understanding of Jesus' bleeding and dying for our sins, i.e., on our behalf? it's all part of God's Big Story.
