Beginning in 2005, Kirk and Amanda Craig moved into Houston's Third Ward to start Agape Development with a heart to serve and transform the area through developing authentic community. Agape Development is founded on the belief that transformation in a person or group of people is grounded first in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, and also in providing resources and training to end the cycle of generational poverty.

Because Agape believes that Jesus offers hope for every place of brokenness, they provide year-round spiritual support for their neighbors, from children to teens and adults. They have also started a church in their neighborhood called Restoration Community where they work to further God's Kingdom work and equip others to follow Christ.

Agape also assists the community by offering resources to encourage adult independence. This month, Agape launched an empowerment group for the women of their neighborhood community to learn business, computer and office skills, helping them to become more marketable when searching for employment. This service is led by a group of the women living in the community, further empowering these women to make a difference for themselves and others.

If you feel led to serve with Agape, there are a variety of opportunities for community groups, families, and individuals to become involved. Consider bringing the whole family to cheer on Agape's basketball team, or consider sharing one of your passions at Agape's Summer Experience. You can check out these opportunities and more on Agape's website.
